We just spent a wonderful week at the beach on the Outer Banks, NC.
Steve's step-father, Forrest, rents a house just north of Corolla for the whole family to enjoy about every three years. This year, as in years past, Forrest; Steve's mother, Susan; step-sister, Erin; her husband, Rob; their three-year-old darling, Jacob; Steve; Emilie; Emilie's friend, Sarah, and I shared the lovely Moonshadow,
on the Currituck Sound. It had a beautiful private
pool, into which I didn't even stick my toe.The house is part of the Corolla Light Resort community, which included a number of amenities, such as numerous tennis courts--indoor and out, various community pools--indoor and out, access to a sports complex, shuffle board, basket ball, even swings...none of which even tempted me, although everyone else ate all of that up! I spent the entire week on the beach, except Thursday which was filled with rain. Two of the days, I was the only one of our clan to even go to the beach!! I read William Faulkner's, The Unvanquished, for book group, and listened to the waves and relaxed and relaxed and relaxed.
I reminisced about my childhood trips with m
y family to Nags Head on the Outer Banks, when we would take yearly drives up to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse; which, at that time, was at the end of a road in the middle of a Federal Wildlife Refuge. I marveled at how I was now sitting on the beach of the destination of those long, boring (oops! Sorry, Mother), sight-seeing drives.

I sat in a beach chair under an umbrella (I spent the whole week under an umbrella and still came away with a decent tan!), right at the edge of the surf and let the waves wash into me as the tide came in... I had a grand time!! We ate at the Duck Deli, played a game of Monopoly (thank you, Grandude, for urging the challenge), and raced the go-carts. I have a a few pictures, which are trapped on my camera because I didn't bring the cord to download them. Duuuuuh!

What a fun time. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. It sounds like an awesome tradition. Primary wasn't the same without you...although you left it in very capable hands.
Ooooohhh - looks like fun! We miss y'all so much! What a fun tradition. When is Emilie taking off?
