By the time Emilie arrived at her dorm suite on Thursday morning, a beautiful girl from Hawaii had snagged her pick of rooms; however, Emilie quickly adjusted and chose the front room, looking over the walkway. Rachel, a girl that was present when Emilie arrived, explained that she and Kahona had met through Facebook months ago and decided to room together; however, once they arrived, they discovered that their schedules were vastly different. Rachel's school day doesn't start until 11 AM and Kahona's starts at 8AM; so they decided that they'd try to find roommates that had schedules more akin to their own. The third girl to arrive, Catherine, who was also from Hawaii, decided to share a room with Kahona, as her schedule also began early in the morning. She had already deposited her belongings and was off to spend the day with her mother. When Rachel learned from Emilie that her schedule began at 10:30AM, and that the front room was much bigger than the one that she had chosen, she moved into the room with Emilie. And that is how Emilie acquired her delightful and beautiful roommate, Rachel.
Making Emilie's bed is going to be quite the chore. She's going to get a workout without her father there to help. After the heavy lifting, Steve joined the other Dad's while the moms helped to lend a hand to the daughters to get everything set.

Nicole's dad visiting with Steve...and Rachel's dad.
What a gift it was for Emilie to have met Nicole within the first hour of her college life. We all spent the whole first day together, chatting and having a lot of fun instead of Steve and me following (hovering over) Emilie as she completed her chores around campus. We ate our provided hot dog lunch together, we went to the bookstore to collect their books together, we went to the parent's meeting with the University President together...and to dinner. Nicole's parents are delightful and engaging. They are pleasant, and faithful, and a lot of fun. What a wonderful way to make one of the hardest transitions in a parent's life....by making new life-long friends!
